Plan A Fun Summer Traveling With Other Assisted Living Putnam County Fl Friends

By Anna Turner

As the summer months approach, you might have plans to take a trip out of the assisted living Putnam County FL community to visit family or friends. You might even be planning a sight-seeing vacation. Many seniors prefer traveling during warmer months to avoid exposure to colder temperatures and winter illnesses. So, when the opportunity presents itself, you pack up and hit the road. However, there are few tasks that need to be done to make sure you have a fun, relaxed and safe trip.

Plan your trip at a time everyone will be able to go. Check with everyone to see what their schedule looks like and book the vacation at a time that is convenient for all. You might want to put a person on different parts of a planning committee to ensure the trip goes smoothly.

Make an appointment to talk to your doctor about your plans to leave town. Your doctor might want to do a physical. Ask for medication refills so you will not run out on your trip. If you plan to leave the country, be sure you take the appropriate vaccinations. Ask your doctor to give you a print out of all your medicines and your conditions just in case the information needs to be passed on to another health provider.

Pack only necessary items needed for your trip. If possible, only take one suitcase, especially if you have mobility issues. But, if you do have to carry a second bag, find a way to attach it to the larger size bag. It will make getting around from location to location easier.

Avoid packing for the trip. You want to only carry the items which are needed and plan to do your laundry while away. Try packing everything in only one suitcase and if you must have another bag, try to keep it small and one that you can carry with you. Also look for a small bag that can attach itself to the larger one.

Plan for unexpected emergencies. Know who you will call and where you need to go if you or a friend should fall ill. It is important that you carry along your health cards. Be sure to know exactly what it will cover before traveling out of the country. Some health insurances will not cover out of the country hospital stays or visits.

If any type of special services is needed to accommodate you, be sure to request it in advance. You can have a wheelchair waiting for you as well as a rental car, and other services to make your trip comfortable. Most hotels and car rentals prefer you call ahead to ensure you get what is needed.

If you plan on being gone more than a week, arrange for your caregiver to pick up your mail and check in on your home. Avoid giving the appearance that you are out of town to keep thieves away. A mailbox with mail spilling out is a sure indicator no one has been home for a while. If your caregiver cannot do it, consider asking a trustworthy neighbor for their assistance.
