Apply Sun Sunless Tanning Lotion Four Times A Week

More people than models and body builders are using Sun sunless tanning lotion. Many men and women prefer this product before they go to the gym, rather than baking their skin in a bed. Even though these products fade, over time, as the epidermis wears away, this is still the safest way to achieve tanned beautiful skin, as dermatologists world wide recommend people avoid excessive contact with the sun or sunning beds.

The idea behind this product is to color the outer lay of skin, known as the epidermis, without impacting the more sensitive dermal layers. Sun rays often cause damage well into the dermis, depending on just how severe the burn is. Not only does this increase the effects of aging of the years, but it can even cause cancerous lesions to develop.

Some of the most popular products on the market contain dihydroxyacetone, or DHA. This is a sugar that reacts with the external layers of the skin, causing the cells themselves to pigment, or change color. As this outer layer is sloughed off, the effects fade, and they recommend reapplication of this product every three or four days so as to maintain a healthy-looking tan.

Tyrosine-containing pills and sprays are available on the market for use of darkening skin as well. It is supposed to work by increasing the amount of melanin, which then accelerates the process of tanning when one lies in the sun. There is not yet any scientific data which proves that this works but many people still swear by it. With the limited studies performed on these products, potential side effects are not well known.

Tanning pills which contain the chemical canthaxanthin are out there, although they are not FDA approved for this use. They are utilized as food coloring additives, but in amounts much smaller than the pills. The fact is, some very serious side effects have been found to result from the use of canthaxanthin internally.

When a person uses canthaxanthin internally, they are using three times what would generally be considered a dose for food. It results in an orange-brown hue to the skin, and can also result in canthaxanthin retinopathy, which is a yellowing of the eyes. The Food and Drug Administration does not intend to ever approve this product as a tan agent, as it has been connected with isolated cases of hepatitis.

External bronzers are frequently used by people who wish to have a healthier look to the skin. Spray-on tans are frequently used for body builders and modeling productions, as they are temporary coloring. It might take a couple of days to get rid of it completely, but these products do wash off within a couple of days with simple soap and water.

Consumers must be aware that Sun sunless tanning lotion is not recommended for use as a sun screen. When one spends time at the beach or the pool, it is strongly recommended that they use a sun screen along with the lotions in order to prevent burning. As a rule, one should utilize a sun screen with an SPF of 15 or above to protect their skin.
